I see. Most of what you say, I can't disagree with. But you might not be aware of the long Catholic theological tradition of understanding her as "Ark of the New Covenant." It does not place her above Jesus, but does recognize her importance.

We learn from Hebrews 9:4 that the old Ark contained (1) manna, the miraculous bread from heaven; (2) the priestly symbol of Aaron's staff that budded; and (3) the Word of God in stone (10 Commandments).

Mary -- the NT fulfillment -- contained in her (1) the true Bread from heaven; (2) our eternal High Priest; and (3) the Word of God in flesh.

Just like the old Ark was not greater than its contents, neither was Mary greater than the fruit of her womb, Jesus. But they are both considered holy based on what was inside, and their close association with them.

When we ignore the chapter break, we find a close connection between the Ark of the Covenant and the mother of Jesus in Revelation 11:19 - 12:5.

Coolest of all are the parallels between the Ark coming to King David and the Visitation of Mary. If it comes through, attached is a photo I just took from a book about the Jewish roots of Mary:
