Biden would have done better than Kamala. Yes, even after that debate; if the MSM had spent half as much effort doing damage control for Biden post-debate as they did shilling Kamala, he could have easily survived that debacle - FFS, the guy was already senile back in 2020, and we saw how that turned out. They could have just gone with the "he had a cold and was overworked" excuse, and the NPCs would have bought it if enough people on the TV had repeated it.

But no, they couldn't do that because replacing Biden with Kamala was always the plan - hence the bizarrely early debate, and the suspiciously late Democrat national convention. It wasn't good enough that Biden's policies were anti-White and anti-male, nothing he could do could atone for his Crime of being an old White male.
