I agree that it's not really scientific, but if we were to go with my opinion, all social "sciences" are just ideology masquerading as science. But what's relevant is that it's treated as if it were science. I don't know enough about the history of scientific investigations into homosexuality, other than that the commonly accepted conclusions (born this way) don't have any real scientific backing. The conclusions were political, not scientific.
