The wires for the motor go on the front side of the rail, so with the rail to your left, the motor wires/socket should face you .
Snug up the screws firmly but don't crush anything, as shown.
You may be able to see what the shims are for -- it has tilted the motor a couple degrees away from the rail, so that when the belt is tensioned, it will tile just slightly back into place. Without this shimming, the belt would rub on the edge of the drive pulley after a while.
