An important resource, but such amounts are bare subsistence level for big instances like mastodon.world. While €12,000 raised (in total) is certainly important right now, commercial services like Bluesky and Threads will be spending that much on staff pizza each month, For the fediverse to flourish, as we’d all like, it will need a much larger funding models, probably in the form of NPR-like sponsorships and/or govt subsidy.
