Functioning labels fundamentally do not work for autistic people because our functioning (or our support needs) aren't the actual problem. The actual problem is whether our support needs are met. If our support needs aren't met, we can burnout, struggle, or worse.
Regardless of whether we're "high functioning" or "low support needs," if our support needs are chronically unmet, this will significantly and negatively impact our ability to live our lives.
