It would appear that the vast majority of #mastodon and #fediverse #relays which are publicly listed are no longer online.
In fact, I've only found ONE that works currently - one my former instance used as well.
Relays are critical for new instances, as an out-of-the-box instance doesn't "know" about ANY instances. This means that you see ZERO posts. A user on the instance must manually follow a remote account by finding the URL for the user, pasting it into search, and then following.
Then, the instance the user belongs to is known by you instance.
There are THOUSANDS of instances. This is where relays come in. Relays provide a gateway to small instances that "teaches" it about other instances.
If you know of any active relays, hook a fella up!
