New commentary in Digital Journalism from me, in a special issue about Software Development in Newsrooms. (Email for access) The argument: we are too credulous about the influence of tech in journalism operations and blindly adopt the business models and ethics of big tech due to a lack of cultural competency and critical thinking about the systems and complexities of technology. We need more social constructivism in our build/buy/design choices.
