I just finished reading Alice Walker's essay "In Search of Zora Neale Hurston." It's a wonderful bit of writing. One idea piqued a thought that has haunted me for awhile.
Zora grew up in the all-Black incorporated town of Eatonville Florida. They kept their indendent schools with all Black students and teachers.
Zora and Eatonville were vocally anti-ingtegration. They graduated students who were adept at their own history, not the one of their oppressors. We need more schools like this now.
