I find the rituals every living man has to be so interesting, slightly silly, and quite cute. We create micro ceremonies that we choose to do each day to gift ourselves comfort, stability, and pleasure. Often we cling to habits, we grip predictability. It feels less scary when we know what to expect day in and day out.

But as with everything, we must find balance. Yin and yang. I’m definitely guilty of having too much comfort, too much stability. Where is the space for spontaneity, for adventure, for the unknown. There is magic in the uncertainty. It is a portal for creation. Certainly, some of the most memorable moments and people of my life are the ones I didn’t see coming. The ones I didn’t plan. The ones I let life randomly unfold for me.

If we can learn to make space for more unknowns in our life, we will surely have a high return on the investment of mental discomfort and unpredictability. Life may give you something much greater than you could have even imagined. We don’t need to have each day, each month, each year planned out to a T. We are fluid, changing and evolving every moment. The plan you attempt to make today for the future may feel safe but it may no longer be suitable for the version of you that arrives at that time.

I’m learning to be less dogmatic in my days, which comes from having built a strong foundation of health. I am aiming to live my life rather than cross the health habits and rituals off my checklist every day. I will always partake in things that make me feel good and keep me healthy, but the point of health is to use it. To build resilience so that you can say yes to any and every thing. Not just avoid more things.

Build your rituals wisely. Leave space for uncertainty.
