I've successfully talking teams out of grand designs which may or may not yield something in the future and instead supported their chewing gum with shell script thing by explaining how to make it better and more flexible with 2 things: 1) choose a VERY common format and 2) throw it into an S3 bucket (or equivalent like minio, ceph - I'm doing it all with DO spaces) because tools nowadays can do S3 straight up so you don't even need your own database anymore and this is actually really cool 😎
