I like Mastodon a whole whole lot because it brings back my initial joy of being on the internet, which began with Really Deep Thoughts, a mailing list for Tori Amos fans back in the 90s. I lost a lot of that excitement when FB came around.
With FB, my general sentiment ended with "I don't need to know the innermost thoughts of every single person I've ever crossed paths with."
With the mailing list and now with Mastodon, it's more of "Wow, there's a lot of benevolent weirdos out there with interesting ideas and cool art, and I get to access that!"
