those apps can get gatekeeper by your phone app store or like your browser etc but thr protocol remains up and running no matter which client (app) you use to access it. it's like http.... an open standard anyone can create or build on. it is not an app or service itself. it's kind of just a new internet. we choose from different browsers to connect to our internet from a computer etc.... nostr uses different clients others build in the same way, and relays (still figuring relays out)
