Not only did bitcoin establish the possibility of a digital currency or “token,” but it has built legitimacy around the crypto industry for 15 years.
The primary exchanges in the US (Robinhood/Coinbase) are part of the problem, listing BTC next to 100s of crypto tokens in their platforms.
It’s hard enough to understand bitcoin, and until it’s distinction from “crypto” is widely understood, people will be deceived and manipulated by bad actors in the crypto space.
