Education is currently a topic in our family.
We homeschool and love it for so many reasons.
Transparently we are a bit of a hybrid of unschool and homeschool, in that while we have an online curriculum we use, we don’t feel our son is learning much through it (he’s learning some for sure, but don’t feel like he’s able to contribute to society yet).
Which begs the question: what does contributing to society look like in general and specifically for him, and are we (and he) ok with that?
(Ie. What does he want to move closer to and what is required for that?)
Right now it’s basketball. Whether he makes it into professional sports is yet to be seen. But he has expressed he wants to play in college and maybe high school.
So that means evaluating “what” he is learning and how do we best help him move closer to his goals…which may mean going to a brick and mortar school. It could mean holding him more accountable to academic studies (less unschooling). It could mean something else we haven’t thought of yet.
