I think subconsciously that's a fearful driving force. I never grew up with it. I'm light skinned Colombian who was born and raised in rural Hawaii. I was the minority based on melanin. Even in my own family being the light skinned one. But having so melanistic people's and cultures blend into a creole was wonderful growing up. We were all minorities by percentage in any categorical sense. One is judged on attitude more than melanin.
