For the heck if it, I went to look at the listings for used laptops (<$200 CAD) and there are a number of them that could meet the needs as a bitcoin node. The only thing needed is additional storage such as a 2 TB drive for under $150 CAD.
Total cost is $350 and you have a fully functioning node and extra storage for hosting files.
This is a reasonable cost for running a full node we we owe thanks to those who fought on the side for keeping smaller blocks. Thanks to their efforts, we don't need to spend a boatload of money on hardware to verify our transactions.
