At one point, I encountered a self-identified prepper who insisted that he needed to have guns and lots of ammunition "in case the event happens".

I pointed out that in such an event, he would be better off using the ammunition as fertilizer to grow plants.

He did not appreciate that.

Which was revealing of his actual motivations, which had nothing to do with prepardness and everything to do with violent fantasies.
