As a Non-American I'm way out of lane here, so I have zero reliability in this particular debate

But don't you either have guns available or you don't (USA upholds the right to have guns)

The point of prison is punishment - not protection. The punishment is a restriction of freedom, which necessarily includes the right to have guns. But if you are not in prison, trying to have guns for some, none for others seems impossible.

Also notably most of these guys commited assault & battery while caught up in a mob mentality - none were sentenced for how they used guns
