The barrier to entry for non-custodial Lightning is still too high for most people. Setting up a Lightning node, establishing and managing payment channels, and connecting a non-custodial wallet software to the node is a fairly technical endeavor.
The vast majority of Lightning users are and likely will always be on custodial platforms. If this is the breakdown with users who are primarily Bitcoiners, who are more motivated to store their Bitcoin non-custodially, and who are likely more technical or at least understand Bitcoin tech more than the average person, this is only going to get worse as Lightning onboards more and more regular people.
