My mom just randomly shared a very old Soviet book with me, called "DIY tools". It starts with silly things, like batteries and electric engines, but then suddenly the last half of the book becomes about building a film movie camera AND an animation desk. Because of course if you're into DIY you'd want a DIY anime. Right?!

The book explains DIY film development, but unfortunately doesn't offer a recipe for a DIY film.

Oh wait, right before this it talks about DIY'ing an X-ray machine out of a light bulb. It recommends testing the machine on your own hands. Alas, they don't explain how to make a screen for the machine, saying you can just buy it in a pharmacy.

The book is "Svoimi rukami" (by your own hands) by Pomerantsev.
