On Nostr (some clients anyway) it seems you have to follow yourself to see your posts in your feed. I doubt there's anything protocol specific toward that outcome, don't think I'd noticed it in other social media.
Perhaps useful, at least though provoking: some say self-view in videoconferencing is straining, analogous?
