The reason that made me not use mastodon was the utter dependence on one of the instances. Moreover I can’t expect all my friends to understand what is an instance, what’s activitypub and so on…
In comparison, to use #nostr as social media, I just need to tell them that pubkey/pvtkey is like your uname/pwd. I can suggest them any nostr client and by default it has some relays added like @jb55 relay for #damus and they are good to go. They don’t even to have to go through account creation. Infact, mostly the client provides them with a uname/pwd to run their account.
