Bro why do we live in this universe of unparalleled and unprecedented near eldritch horrors, to which we cannot even conceive of solutions or answers too? It genuinely feels like we fell into some sort of “retard Goldilocks” zone of being smart enough and sentient enough to realize issues like mortality and agency and free will and identity and shit, but not actually smart enough to solve any of it. We live in a fundamentally antagonistic universe where you live at a net loss, as a literal fundamental law of existence, it costs you to breath, to beat your heart, to think with your brain, and this seeps into even aspects of our daily lives with things like having to buy foods to not starve and such. We’re not dumb enough to be just like, wild deer eating the fucking tree bark off the trees in the woods, but we’re not smart enough to circumvent energy issues, identity issues, free will issues.
This shit is why I like anime so much, cause it’s a glimpse into a universe where I am not borne into a debt I can only ever stave off and never fully get rid of, anime characters literally live in fictional universes with imaginary bank accounts that accommodate their spending, imaginary gas tanks to accommodate all their driving, imaginary problems to give them clear answers to their agency.
When I say, “I can never have this” when I post a picture of an anime girl it’s not whining that girls don’t like me, it’s a horrific realization that not only can this person fundamentally not exist, but I have to live with the knowledge of how nice it would be if they did
