this time round, I'm not sure it's a thread problem at all. The handwheel resists movement even when there is no thread anywhere in the machine. It feels and sounds scratchy like there's metal scraping on metal somewhere.
With my luck, the countless times the previous problem (thread mess underneath) ground it to a halt caused some problem in the motor or timing mechanic or something.
Last ditch effort is borrowing my gran's machine (decades old, when things were built to last), bringing that to the shop to top off the fluids and check the tyre pressure, and see if that works. If not, I'm all out of juice to try and fail and try and fail again.
