The question how the messenger routs the messages is important from the perspective off mass surveillance and meta data analysis, but here I am worried mainly about the confidentiality of the conversation itself. No matter what messenger I use, how well it is encrypted or if it is centralized or federated or entirely decentralized: If I use it on the same device as eg Tiktok or Facebook and those apps just record the whole screen then the security of the messenger is totally irrelevant anyway. And the only reasonable approach to circumventing that I see would be to use dedicated systems for one application only to minimize that attack surface. What messenger I use in that environment in the end is a secondary question.
