Abu Dhabi (The Union) concluded its participation in the Asia and Oceania Optimist Championship, which was held in Hong Kong, alongside a large number of teams from the 'Yellow Continent', Oceania, and South America. The Asia and Oceania Optimist Championship, 'Optimist', brought together more than 120 sailors from 20 countries, including the UAE, Oman, Qatar, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Japan, India, China, South Korea, Macau, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Myanmar, and Hong Kong. The team made a distinguished presence in the 5-day championship, achieving good results in the preliminary rounds for player classification, and succeeded in qualifying four sailors, Khalifa Al-Remeithi, Abdullah Yahya Al-Zubaidi, Simon Hristov, and Cornelius Bajak, to the gold group, which consisted of 67 sailors. Our young champions faced significant challenges in the decisive stages, which took place amidst the fluctuations of the Pacific Ocean between islands, where Simon Hristov achieved 20th place, Abdullah Yahya Al-Zubaidi finished 33rd, Khalifa Al-Remeithi secured 52nd place, and Cornelius Bajak finished 54th in the final standings of the gold group. It is worth noting that the participation of the modern sailing team came as part of the strategic plan of the Modern Sailing and Rowing Federation, led by Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, to provide opportunities for team members in all age groups to compete and hone their skills in regional, continental, and international championships in modern sailing sports.
