#FaceApp really had no idea how powerful I could become.
The first time I used FaceApp, I cried because I identified more with a filter than my own body and lived experience. I used it weekly for years. I used it even more as I started HRT to see “what to expect”. It was wrong.
I’m grateful for it as a tool to ease my dysphoria and express my gender. FaceApp helped crack my egg and gave me hope (albeit inaccurate) that my transition was possible and could be ‘worth it’. I grateful and lucky that be able to root my gender in my own body and life again.
If anyone who follows me uses FaceApp, I’m sending you hope, empathy, and a massive caveat that their model is trained on a limited database of thin white people which conflates being a woman to being thin and white.
