I think Fugazi differentiates themselves from other punk (umbrella) bands starting at Red Medicine (1995) though. Their early output is great, but I find their later releases to be more interesting in a slow/repeated digestion type way. In that way, they rode the traditional arc of punk "professionalizing" their sound, even if their DIY ethos didn't change.
