Mirrorless cameras are the newest tech but I prefer old DSLR's because they still use a shutter/mirror. Canon is probably a good all around brand and the lenses tend to be cheaper.
You also gotta decide early on if you want motion / shake compensation built into the camera body, or dependent on the lens you use.
I have a Nikon D3400, so all my lenses are expensive and also if you want motion comp, etc you have to buy it as part of the lens.
Not sure if autofocus is the same with other brands either, but usually that comes with my lenses too.
There's a lot to consider. My D3400 was considered entry-level / amateur probably 10 years ago.
Everything is uber expensive now. A good camera body (only) is probably gonna be around $800 and up.
