Today's Gaza news reminds me that for a long time I've advocated a "slow news" approach for both journalists and readers/viewers/etc.:
Journalists should not push out rumors and unverified "news" without the loudest of disclaimers (preferably not at all), but rather wait until they know for sure.
The rest of us should assume that breaking "news" may well be wrong -- and wait for reports from trustworthy sources.
As a relevant saying goes, in war the first casualty is truth.
