If you do fiber runs (SingleMode/MultiMode) you can choose the speeds you want (1/10/25/40G) down the road. Without requiring to upgrade the cabling.

I agree. Ethernet is more versatile in day-to-day use. At the additional cost of higher purchase prices of the NICs and switches.

For speeds 10G and above. Fiber solutions are really your only optoin.
