Had a bit of a breakthrough with the flight simulators.

Despite making things difficult for myself by stubbornly continuing to do everything in Linux I have finally managed to get myself a working head tracking setup using an old webcam and OpenTrack

It's certainly no VR, and I'm still tuning parameters and getting used to using it, but being able to look around just by moving my head is already making a huge difference to my situational awareness in the game.
