I don't know who is Stanisław Lem, looking in the internet now I see some things, but I think it would be better for me to read his work.
I don't agree with "different scales in time and space", if they're just different biological living beings, how could that affect the scale in time and space?
I think if they truly wanted to make contact, it would be obvious, such as landing a ship in a crowded city. Why would they try a subtle contact if it would be difficult for us to perceive? But I think what you said about "we have enough difficulty communicating with people that are sufficiently different from us" is correct, if some humans don't get along despite having the same "race", then why would humans get along with aliens?
About the possibility of the sun being conscious, I never thought of that, this is cool. But I think consciousnesses is directly related with motion, while the sun does have motion, it seems it makes repetitive and predictive moves. If I was the sun, I think I would be wandering through the universe at terrific speeds to figure out where I come from and looking for new fields of life exploring, but as you said, "maybe they have tried to contact and we just don't notice".
