small broken structures
mislaid stories against light
and the hope it brings
swimming in our simmering
unknown until taste
reveals the trap set for us
large men with slow guns
one grinning with two closed fists
as if it's a choice
his knuckles raw with pleading
scratched into the skin
by those of us who can't wait
for the reveal, the poison
