How serious is the financial crisis in local government?
UNISON suggests a 'black hole' in Local Council's budget (overall) of £4.3bn this year & doubling next year, without emergency funding from central Govt.
While the Labour Govt. is promising a long-term funding to end the crisis, in the meantime given the legal requirement to balance the books, we can expect yet more major reductions in local public service(s).
And its the disadvantaged who will (again) suffer most!
