Years ago I was in a WeChat conversation with a guy who worked for one of the state news outlets. I mentioned a name of a guy who it turned out was on the CCP naughty list. I found out later that within minutes the office of the guy I was talking to got shut down and a bunch of people questioned because I had mentioned that name in the chat. Based on that experience I have no doubt that China regularly monitors and collects data from TikTok. It's what they do.
