I’ve been noodling on this thought for a while: “Publishers are dependent on Facebook for audience, and the audience on the fediverse isn’t quite there yet because there hasn’t been the investment, so they don’t put in the investment, and the situation perpetuates itself forever.”
I’m genuinely surprised a big media co (NYT) hasn’t tried a meaningful experience in top of ActivityPub or Mastodon by now. I suspect it’s come up but got shot down as “not our core competency”
