A couple of months ago, a senior colleague in geography presented to my class about his work on military 'survival schools.' I was supposed to write him a thank you note engaging his presentation and I could not and have not, not because it wasn't thoughtful and interesting and fairly morally grounded, but because I try not to hand my theological box of darkness to others and I found I could write nothing that wasn't basically me screaming BUT *WHO* GETS TO SURVIVE
