Good points all around but I wish you could better prove it by pointing the rightist parallel of this part:"Is desire for peace, prosperity, freedom and human rights and progression towards that, somehow 'leftist'?"It wouldn't be hard to list inflammatory examples where those things are undermined by particular undercurrents of what are seen as left-wing positions. (This varies region by region)
Personally I would add a few other options and mix them up between each side. I'd argue that neither side has an absolute monopoly on prosperity, nor peace. This is partially because those rely in part on things outside people's direct control. (natural resources & external threats)
As someone who leans a bit to a side, I think people need to do a better job at identifying shared red lines. The concept of "human rights" is fundamentally meaningless if your concept of the "greater good" or harm reduction can be used as a politically convenient exception. Simply telling the other side "give up, our differences are arbitrary" does very little to resolve the real differences.
I would guess that over the last few years more people have shifted right than vice-versa. There are good and bad elements of this, but it's more important to think about those people as rational human beings rather than fools mesmerized by evil magic.
