One of the things that depresses me consistently on Mastodon is how many users seem to hate journalists. It seems to come out of a few things: dissatisfaction with mainstream media (fair), anger over advertising (a complicated problem), anger at paywalls (hating both paywalls and advertising is certainly a choice?), a weird belief that traditional journalism "no longer works" and could best be delivered in blog format (one's functional programming blog != investigative journalism outlet)...
