i think what's going on here is the socket it's plugged into is a single lane PCI-E shared with the motherboard's M.2 socket, thus, utterly gutted

and mobo is too small such that the other dedicated single lane socket is unusable due eto dual width video card

seems like i'm gonna get a better result if i can find the physical 3.1 socket on the motherboard wherever it is
