but if you must, then you *have* to not make it easy for them. you *cannot* use any Meta (Facebook), Alphabet (Google), Amazon, Apple, or Microsoft service, including Google Docs, Office365, gmail, MSN, Outlook, Threads, WhatsApp, FaceTime, Instagram, YouTube, and most other popular, wide-reaching services. You can't use Twitter, and given TikTok is soon to be slurped up by Oracle, you can't use that either.
Why? Because you wouldn't go stand out in front of a police station, put up a soapbox, and start broadcasting. You know full well you'd get picked up right away, *as would anyone who came to listen.*
You're not just protecting yourself, you're protecting your audience. Use Cryptpad instead of Google Docs. Use Signal instead of WhatsApp or Facetime. Use Pixelfed instead of Instagram. Use Mastodon instead of Twitter. Using Proton might not be a good idea but it's better than using Gmail.
Effective resistance is going to require eschewing the convenience -- and the reach -- of the tools offered by the enemy. That's just all there is to it.
