Its more complicated than in the US for sure. Firstly assault weapons are 100% banned for ordinary citizens. I believe you're only allowed to buy one gun, rifle or shotgun per calendar year. You need a gun carrying license which involves a psych evaluation, testing and no criminal record, and you need to register the gun and run ballistics on it. It takes about a week to ten days to actually get one if you start the process from scratch. If you already have your license then it takes 3-5 days
