Rewatching (New) Doctor Who from the 2005 debut and man... I give the Christopher Eccelston year shit, but The Empty Child two parter is some great Doctor Who. There's no malicious force, just a bit of misunderstanding on the part of some alien tech designed to help, and the fix isn't a bunch of technobabble, it's one frightened little girl overcoming her secret shame to tell her son she loves him. That's it. That's the whole conflict and resolution.
