For those not familiar with dental insurance, it is typical to have a maximum benefit for the year, often between $1,000 and $2,000, though fully paid checkups is not part of that limit. So if I need 2 crowns in a year I can expect to pay for one of them without insurance. And even then insurance paid like for 50%.

Compare this to my health insurance, where there is a maximum amount I pay a year for medical costs.
