given the age of the universe, it's quite possible life showed up prior to present day and saw something noteworthy.
In the time scale of the universe, we are a blip, so thinking everything revolves around our relatively short time on the planet brings to mind when people thought the universe revolved around us, only this time in a temporal way.
Fermi's paradoxis built on that.
