I've said this before but loneliness /isolation and persecutory syndrome / gang stalking delusion are related in a interesting way.
By imagining that you are being stalked you no longer feel alone, in fact you seek to be MORE alone than you are, which ends up putting yourself in a worse place, but in the meantime you don't feel crushed by the loneliness because you are preoccupied with this dynamic of being harassed or stalked.
I think that's what you call a psychological maladaptation.
A coping mechanism that can make things worse.
