When I first heard rumors about new digital technologies in the early 1990s, two terms stood out: "virtual reality" and "internet". Initially, I wasn't sure if these meant the same thing, since I hadn't really seen either of them in person.

Since then, I've lost track of the number of times, VR was announced as the next big thing, only to fail miserably. The latest, but probably not the last, entry into that storied list: Apple's Vision Pro.
