I'd recommend `tig` as a bit of a fancy TUI quick view of things occuring within your gir working area
You can specify different branches etc for different views
It can do a lot more than I probably use it for
As for the server side I'd recommend looking at something like Gogs, gitea or forgejo (each is an "upgrade" on the one prior)
Runs as a container well and takes care of most of the admin for you
Web based GUIs but all api-able too
